Nobody expects that they would ever have to deal with fire damages in their own home. This is why, when a fire actually hits, the homeowner may be completely taken aback and unable to think of what to do to save their home and loved ones. However, there are certain things you can do to reduce damages and protect yourself and others.

  • Call up the police and fire department:

The first thing you will want to do is to call up the fire department to put out the fire. In some time, the department will come to your home. They will then put out the fire and save as much of the home and furniture that they can.

  • Contact your insurance company at once:

Next, you should call up the insurance company that you have been dealing with and alert them to the situation. They will then contact some reconstruction company or adjuster who will come over to see how bad the damaged have gotten.

  • Use a reconstruction company:

Once you have a reconstruction company on the site, they will work helping you reduce the damages and losses as far as they can. Whatever can be saved from your home will be restored and replaced, so you should hire them to take care of things as soon as possible. What cannot be fixed and reconstructed because of the fire damages will be replaced or disposed of to help ease your problems.

  • Address the problems without delays:

In some situations the damage is so severe, that it becomes dangerous for the homeowner to stay inside the home. In case you need to leave, don’t stop the restoration work, and let it continue in your absence. The thing with damages is that the more they are left on their own, the worse the problem gets. The damages will become more and more problematic, such as water damages resulting from the fire damages that happened beforehand. This can create a horrible smell along with creating dampness that can lead to mold growth.

  • Drying out and cleaning:

Most restoration companies will be able to provide you with many of these services to help you clean up after the major restoration is done. This can include drying out and removing all water, smell of smoke, fire damages, removal of odors, mold inspections and remediation, and any other resultant damages from the fire. This may take some time but in the long run, it will save you from a lot of future problems.

Restoration work can be very difficult for most homeowners, but if you call up the right reconstruction or remediation team, you can actually do a big favour to yourself by saving up on time, cost, and energy. Not only that, the reconstruction team can actually work with your insurance company by providing them with an inventory of all the damages to help you file a claim that will help you cover the costs and ease the burden on you.
