Got Water Damage? Follow These Steps for Speedy Cleanup! [infographic]

  • Ensure your safety, above all else. Water damage can come from many sources and range from a leaky sink to an overflowing river flooding your property. Above all else, ensure that you are safe should the water damage be severe.
  • Don’t panic! It can be easy to worry or panic when you see flood waters in your home. Do your best to keep a level head and assess the situation before diving in, figuratively speaking.
  • Quickly assess the source of the water with precautions. When it comes to water sources, you have clean water, grey water and black water. Clean water is from pipes or rain, grey water comes from sources like washing machines, and black water comes from sewage or serious flooding. Do not enter black or even large amounts of grey water, since these can be hazardous to your health.
  • Find a water shutoff source, if any. If the source of your water damage is from a clean or gray water source, find the source of the shutoff. Sometimes this can be the shutoff valve for the water to the property.
  • Call in an expert in water removal/cleanup. If you are able to stop the water or not, your first call should be to water damage cleanup experts like ours. Because we have emergency services, we can get to you any time of the day or night and start immediate cleanup.
  • Call your insurance agents. Your next call should be to your insurance agents. Because insurance companies want to avoid as much damage as possible, they will most likely work with any reputable company that you call.
  • Be cautious in removing wet items. If you have slow but steady flooding occurring, you might want to start removing items to save them for drying. Be cautious in doing so, however, since these items might not be salvageable and could be hazardous.
  • Keep your receipts during the interim. If you are displaced by your flooding and cleanup process, be sure to keep your receipts for your insurance company. This can include receipts for lodging, food, office accommodations, etc.
